Please note that our next forum is on the 2nd Sunday of July (not the 1st Sunday as they normally are).
Maths misunderstanding is rife - it is often a badge of honour for journalists to proclaim loudly their incompetence and lack of interest; indeed, belief that none of it, especially school maths, really matters a jot.
Yet, confusion about statistics and probability can ruin lives. In the first half of this talk, Jan will attempt to explain some fundamentals of probability and introduce some fun conundrums. Nothing is certain!
In the second half, she will consider a couple of the devastating ‘guilty’ verdicts based on probability confusion: in particular, the harrowing story of Sally Clark.
So, do come and join us. We meet upstairs in The CanalHouse for coffee/tea from 10.30, with the Forum starting at 11.00. We aim to finish by 12.30 and then, whoever wishes to will go for a drink and maybe lunch too.
