MATES SUNDAY RUN / AGM
Start: 07:00 at Constantia Nek
The run and hiking group both start at 07:00 at Constantia Nek. The group will hike together up the first part of Constantia Corner and then around into Agatha’s Gully to eventually emerge near the top of the normal Bel Ombre / Constantia Corner hike. There is minimal exposure on the way up and a fairly easy scramble that one can avoid if necessary. From there, follow the path to the De Villers Dam (for a swim if it’s hot) and Overseers Hut via Camel Rock.
An option for the runners would be to take Smuts Track to Ash Valley. Up Ash Valley to the Hely-Hutchinson Dam Wall. Then follow the path through the arboretum in Nursery Valley to the top of Nursery Ravine. Then take Smuts Track back to the Overseers Hut. Just past Overseers, turn left and descend Cecilia Ridge and head back to Constantia Nek via Cecilia Waterfall. Just a thought! We can make it up as we go!!
The hikers will pop straight down from the dam.
All done at a leisurely pace over a few hours to be back in time for MATES to start our parking lot AGM at about 10:00.
Bring the family and a picnic – a couple of snacks will be provided by MATES but please bring your own - and come and socialise / meet some new faces and the CEO in person (always a treat). All groups are welcome! We better see this on the TMT and Durbac run updates... We will have a surprise guest speaker that you would not want to miss!! Elite runner… That’s all we’re giving away.
Distance: Probably not more than about 15kms with a very nice short cut available.
Important Notes
Dress in weather appropriate and proper trail running gear. Must include a proper windproof (waterproof if raining) jacket. Carry plenty of water and energy snacks. You are running voluntarily and entirely at your own risk. If you run ahead of the group you will be deemed to have left the group and are on your own. Unfortunately, no dogs allowed. Bring plenty of ICE cold beers for after.
