Master the Outdoors: Intro to Plein Air Workshop with Victoria & Colette!

- Focus: An accessible, inclusive "Introduction to Plein Air" workshop open to all skill levels. In advance of the much anticipated Fairport Plein Air Festival, this workshop is designed to encourage new and seasoned artists to participate in the Plein Air tradition.......
- Initial Meeting Spot: The local kayak launch on LiftBridge Lane
- Post-Workshop Wrap-up: The group will return to the gallery at 114 N Main St around 11:30 following the class for light refreshments and an informal gathering and conversation about their work, There will also be an opportunity to view the current exhibit of Collette and Victoria's on display at the gallery!
There is free, public, accessible parking as well as a no-step entry. Sidewalks and crosswalk are present along the path to our studio. The gender neutral restroom within our space is large and accessible with grab bars. A NOTE FROM THE INSTRUCTORS:
The workshop begins at 9:00 am promptly.
. We recommend you bring a snack to the workshop as you would miss valuable painting time if you leave to get food.
Bring water, bring bug spray, bring sunscreen. Bring a camp chair for when you are painting, if you like to sit.
If you need to borrow an easel, let us know and we can arrange to bring one to the workshop for you.
Materials:
Here are three general points for you to consider as you organize your materials for the workshop:
1. Keep It Simple: Start Small
Use a lightweight easel and small canvas or panel (8x10" or 9x12" as the largest to start). A compact setup makes it easier to move and focus on essentials.
2. Pack Light, Pack Smart
Bring only what you need depending on your medium
Limited palette (suggested colors below)
Paper towels or rags
Trash bag, clips, viewfinder
If you are painting in oils or watercolors, bring brushes (3-4 sizes is enough)
Palette knife
Medium (Gamsol, solvent free gels, or water for water media)
If you are drawing, bring a set of pencils, erasers, pencil sharpener and your favorite sketchbook
Tip: A backpack or rolling cart makes transportation easier.
3. Use a Limited Color Palette
For pastels, try to pare your kit down to the essentials. For oil, acrylic, gouache, or watercolor paints, start with 4-5 core colors such as the following:
Titanium White
Ultramarine Blue
Hansa or Cadmium Yellow Light
Napthol Red
Convenience colors as desired
Remember that painting plein air is like going on a picnic — when you pack for a picnic, you bring the essentials and not your entire kitchen. For this workshop, you don't want to bring your entire studio, just the key materials needed to get work done. (And yes, Colette and Victoria will have materials, so if you forget something, we have you covered!)

and most importantly, bring an open mind and your love for the outdoors!
