Mastering the Focused Heek group class is based on the work of William Koehler. I teach it in private training and in group classes. The name of class may not sound appealing to the average dog owner. So please let me explain more.
Many people complain that their dog is pulling them on walks, that their dog doesn't listen or focus on them, that they are tired of yanking and pulling on training collars, they feel like they are bribing a dog to give them a treat for everything, and the list goes on.
The techniques in this program are not new but they are unique compared to what the majority offer today. This class is based on the work of William Koehler, which most dog trainers follow his methods in one way or another.
What is different? We teach dogs how they learn best through body language without words or treats to start because we want to teach them to follow our lead. So therefore, a dog learns to walk in a perfect heel for those busy events, or places but they also learn to walk ahead on a 6-foot leash or 15-foot-longleash but still checking in with you. Dogs like kids need proper leadership to live their best lives. I don't train robots, nor do I want too. Dogs can be dogs but still have follow your lead to have safe, and happy adventure with you. Eventually, we will add words, and we will add some treats, but we are not over verbalizing to the dog in a language they don't understand, and we are not bribing them to follow us either.
With this method, you are not stuck cranking on their collar all the time to slow down the rest of their life. A training collar isn't like the string on your lawn mower and shouldn't be used as such. Harnesses were not created for walking dogs but to hook to dogs to pull sleds, carts, and more. They are great for hooking your dog to a seatbelt in your vehicle or for announcing your dog does therapy or service work... Dogs on harnesses typically pull, become reactive, and much more.
This program completely changed my life with my dog and opened so many more opportunities for us like therapy work, therefore I wanted to do this with my clients so they could get the benefits I have. The bond I have with my dog grew immensely as we worked through it all together. The William Koehler method teaches dogs to focus on you and follow you through by using body language, corrective turns, and more. At first, I was bored out of my mind with the longline work and so was my dog but I worked through it and I am blown away by the results in my dog, and in my client's dogs. My dog literally watches my feet to stay in a heel and now when on a longline he checks in with me often while on a loose leash ahead of me. It is phenomenal. Now he helps me teach it to my clients.
Equipment needed for group class:
You will need a regular 6 foot nylon or leather leash, a 15ft biothane leash, and a training collar either a Herm Sprenger choke chain or Herm Sprenger prong collar.
PLEASE DO NOT ORDER EQUIPMENT UNTIL AFTER SPEAKING TO ME.
