MASTERING PSYCHOSOCIAL HAZARDS
The STAGE28 Mastering Series is designed for leaders seeking deeper insight, practical strategies and meaningful impact. To mark our Perth, WA launch, we’re offering admission at 50% off.
This ‘Mastering…’ event from STAGE28 will take a meaningful and optimistic approach to the most complex of the psychosocial hazards: TRAUMA
The workshop will be delivered by Dr John Durkin, firefighter turned psychologist, and Director at STAGE28 International. His expertise took root amongst POPPA’s peer support teams at NYPD after 9/11 which later enabled him to lead the crisis response for the Metropolitan Police after London’s 2017 terror attacks. As John still adheres to the ‘save life’ priority in fire and rescue work he takes a ‘bottom-up, experience-led’ approach to trauma in contrast to the ‘top-down, theory-led’ approach of psychiatry and psychology. This compels John to make his knowledge and skills-training accessible, practical and effective for anyone motivated to prevent or undo trauma. As such, he encourages you to believe only what you can try and test for yourself and then judge its value by your own experience.
John will begin by laying some foundations of scientific knowledge and legal terms to explain why definitions and language are important. He will make simple distinctions, easily memorised, to build a clear framework in which to think about trauma. Turning a mental framework into a practical delivery tool is a challenge that ‘top-down’ thinking rarely accomplishes. However, a series of exercises will show why a ‘bottom-up’ approach is likely to succeed. The result will be tools that can be tested in the workshop and used when the workshop is over.
Building on the confidence that should have grown through the day, the RAIDS PTSD prediction tool will be introduced along with the STAGE28 online data collection and risk assessment portal. Collectively, these trauma assessment tools and techniques have been designed for organisations to protect their people, avoid trauma-related litigation and uphold their reputations for excellence and service.
