-----------Description of Felix------------
-Resisting with dance and songs from Mozambique-
Félix Nordino Chibuane is travelling across Europe with the mission of photographing swing dance events and, at the same time, sharing the richness of Mozambican culture through traditional Mozambican dance and songs.
Through this trip, Félix aims to build cultural bridges, promoting artistic exchange and valuing Mozambican traditions on the international stage.
-----------Description of the dance workshops------------
The swing steps as we know them have emerged in the United States of America from West African communities brought there by force to be enslaved. Musique and dance were tools of resistance, resilience and self expression in a very hostile world. New music genres emerged, rich from many different influences and people mixing, yet still rooted in many African cultures.
Among the cultural expressions presented will be Xigubo, a traditional Mozambican dance historically associated with the war period. Xigubo is characterized by strong and striking movements, symbolizing courage, resistance, and cultural identity.
-----------Description of the music workshop ---------
Felix plays traditional Mozambican instruments, such as the batuque and the timbila, and will propose a participatory workshop that explores the richness of Mozambican rhythms in a creative and accessible way.
The workshop is designed as a group experience in which participants, seated in a circle, use their own shoes as percussion instruments. Through this innovative approach, it is possible to create rhythmic patterns inspired by traditional Mozambican music, while simultaneously promoting coordination, active listening, and team spirit.
During the session, participants are guided in building rhythms while singing together, creating an engaging atmosphere that unites music, movement, and cultural expression.
