About this Event
Jutta Puchhammer-Sédillot is a recently retired Full Professor of Viola and Chamber Music at the Université de Montréal. Born in Vienna and now an Austro-Canadian, she has enjoyed a rich international career as a violist, teacher, and advocate. She performed as principal violist with the Laval Symphony and Great Canadian Ballet orchestras for over 20 years and appeared as a soloist on three continents. A sought-after chamber musician, she collaborated widely and founded several ensembles. Her discography highlights rare Romantic viola repertoire, and she edited Pièces de Concoursfor Schott. A tireless promoter of the viola, she served as President of the Canadian (2000–2014) and International Viola Societies (2020–2026), organizing numerous Viola Congresses. Her awards include the Maurice Riley Prize, the IVS Silver Alto Clef, and Canada’s Life Achievement Award. Her latest initiative, the IVS Audio Viola Database, promotes underperformed viola and piano repertoire worldwide through recordings and scholarly research.
