Masterclass: Pop up darkroom & Pinhole Photography

We have invited six artists to each lead one Masterclass session each that will introduce key pieces of equipment that will be available to borrow from the new St Helens Arts in Libraries Equipment Library this year.

This session will cover the basics on pinhole photography, including how to build a DIY pinhole camera, how to calculate the best exposure times, and how to develop the image in a darkroom.

Throughout the workshop, you will gain an understanding of the science of light, and how the camera mimics the human eye.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Lucy Evans is an artist and photographer working often with analogue technologies and skills that face obsoletion. She recently completed a residency at Wigan's Old Courts, exploring ecological solutions to darkroom photography, and formulating DIY photochemical recipes.

St Helens Borough Council’s Library Service has commissioned Artist Led St Helens to devise and deliver this programme of work. Supported by Arts Council England, thanks to funding from taxpayers, the commission forms part of the Arts in Libraries initiative, helping creatives to develop their practice.
