About this Event

Join us for a guided practice and community Q&A discussion centered on living intentionally through mindfulness and daily stress management habits. Featuring the works of The Myth of Normal by Gabor & Daniel Maté and Rewire Your Anxious Brain by Catherine M. Pittman & Elizabeth M. Karle, this experiential workshop seeks to explore happiness and calm not as simple emotions, but as abilities meant to be strengthened.

Gone are the days of "living on autopilot," and instead, step into an elevated sense of control through steadiness, presence, and a grounded mindset.

This seated workshop will include conversational and interactive guided exercises for physical and emotional self-awareness. This event does not require special clothing, workout gear, or prior experience.

🎟 This event is FREE and open to the public and books will be available for purchase the night of the event! An RSVP grants general entry, but seating is not guaranteed, so please try and show up early. Please RSVP only if you intend to join us. Can't make the event? Buy your copies of and here.

About The Myth of Normal

The instant New York Times bestseller
By the acclaimed author of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts, a groundbreaking investigation into the causes of illness, a bracing critique of how our society breeds disease, and a pathway to health and healing.
In this revolutionary book, renowned physician Gabor Maté eloquently dissects how in Western countries that pride themselves on their healthcare systems, chronic illness and general ill health are on the rise. Nearly 70 percent of Americans are on at least one prescription drug; more than half take two. In Canada, every fifth person has high blood pressure. In Europe, hypertension is diagnosed in more than 30 percent of the population. And everywhere, adolescent mental illness is on the rise. So what is really “normal” when it comes to health?
Over four decades of clinical experience, Maté has come to recognize the prevailing understanding of “normal” as false, neglecting the roles that trauma and stress, and the pressures of modern-day living, exert on our bodies and our minds at the expense of good health. For all our expertise and technological sophistication, Western medicine often fails to treat the whole person, ignoring how today’s culture stresses the body, burdens the immune system, and undermines emotional balance. Now Maté brings his perspective to the great untangling of common myths about what makes us sick, connects the dots between the maladies of individuals and the declining soundness of society—and offers a compassionate guide for health and healing. Cowritten with his son Daniel, The Myth Of Normal is Maté’s most ambitious and urgent book yet.

About Rewire Your Anxious Brain

Do you ever wonder what is happening inside your brain when you feel anxious, panicked, and worried? Now fully revised and updated, Rewire Your Anxious Brain offers a unique, evidence-based solution to overcoming anxiety based in cutting-edge neuroscience.

In Rewire Your Anxious Brain, psychologist Catherine Pittman and author Elizabeth Karle show how the amygdala and cortex (both key parts of the brain) are essential players in the neuropsychology of anxiety. The amygdala acts as a primal response, and oftentimes, when this part of the brain processes fear, you may not even understand why you are afraid. By comparison, the cortex is the center of "worry." That is, obsessing, ruminating, and dwelling on things that may or may not happen.

In the book, Pittman and Karle provide specific examples of how to manage fear by tapping into both of these pathways in the brain. You'll gain a greater understanding of how anxiety is created in the brain, and as a result, you will feel empowered and motivated to overcome it. This new edition also features the latest in cutting-edge brain research, unique "goal-focused" self-assessments, and more than a decade of new findings in neuroscience.

The brain is a powerful tool, and the more you work to change the way you respond to fear, the more resilient you will become. Using the practical and proven-effective techniques in this book, you will learn to literally "rewire" the brain processes that lie at the root of your fears.
