IT’S WOLFBAT SEASON IN ASBURY PARK

Dennis McNett, aka Wolfbat, is coming back to Asbury Park for his fourth annual artist residency at the historic Carousel House on the Asbury Park Boardwalk with the Wooden Walls Public Art Project, as part of the Plus One Festival, , a series of art parties taking place in Asbury Park this fall.

What began as an artist residency has become an annual tradition, and we are excited to welcome Dennis back to Asbury Park for his 4th annual visit.

As part of his residency, Dennis will once again host his beloved mask-making workshops, inviting the community to create alongside him in this truly inspiring and sacred space.

The workshops are free and open to the public, welcoming participants of all ages, skill levels, and time commitments. Space is limited, so advance registration is required.

CREATE A 3D WOLFBAT MASK

For the creative warrior ready to go all in, Dennis will lead participants in creating a 3D cardboard and papier-mâché mask.

Completing these elaborate masks requires 2–4 three-hour sessions (6–12+ hours). Each mask begins with a cardboard structure uniquely constructed to fit the participant’s head shape and size. The structure is then covered with paper and acrylic gel medium to strengthen and toughen the form.

Finally, participants will transform their creations with paint and Wolfbat’s distinctive woodcut-print patterns, giving each mask its own ornate skin.

Registration is required for the 3D Mask-Making Workshop. Space and supplies and are limited.

MAKE A MASK IN A DAY

Short on time? Want to create something with the kids? We’ve got you covered.

Participants can also create screen-printed paper masks that can be painted with watercolors and decorated with paste-on additions. A finishing touch of string makes the mask wearable.

These masks can take anywhere from 1–3 hours, depending on how much time and detail you want to put into your creation. No registration is required; open until supplies run out.

OPEN STUDIO

Throughout Dennis’s residency, there will be open studio hours each day, when anyone can drop by the Carousel House and create a mask with us.

Work at your own pace and time. All workshops are free and open to the public. The Mask-Making Workshop is Sept 8th- 13th from 12-8pm.

MARCH OF MEDUSA

All participants who make a mask are invited to participate in the 4th Annual March of Medusa, a community art experience like no other in Asbury Park, on Sunday, September 20 at 1pm. Meet at Carousel at Noon.
