About this Event
We are a small group of tribal youth that advocate for and protect all natural beings. Our first campaign is focused on advocating for the Rights of Herring, which are currently under threat of extinction due to various forms of pollution as well as overfishing, and poorly built fish ladders. We have successfully drafted and presented the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribeβs first Rights of Nature Resolution to declare a state of emergency on behalf of our herring relatives. We have attended many confrences across Turtle Island the past two years and were inspired to host our own event in our homelands.
This event will feature panels and presentations from speakers both local and from across Turtle Island. We will be discussing the Rights of Nature initiative, food sovereignty, and solutions with a specific focus on water and marine animal rights. We will also be showing a special screening of the Herring Protectors (Sitka, AK) film with discussion afterwards with Louise Khasheechtlaa Brady. Tickets for the film screening are an additional $5 and can be purchased in advance, or at the door. Indigenous inspired meal catered by Chef Sherry Pocknett and Sly Fox Den.
This is a community event, open to the public. Pre-registration required. Tickets are $10 plus an optional $5 for the film screening. Lunch will be provided. Table space available for local NGO's. Please email [email protected] with any questions.
