About this Event
Masculine makeup is for everyone!
A makeup workshop for boylesque artists and masc performers of all genders.
You’ll learn how to use makeup to emphasize your masculine facial features or how to create the illusion of masculine features. We will dive into how to use makeup for character work or impersonation.
This workshop does not focus on products or brands: the focus is on learning to work with what you have.
If you have a tight budget or are new to makeup, all you need are 4 key products, outlined below. If you have lots of makeup, bring all of it, as you will have more tools to work with. This is not a one-size-fits-all class and capacity is limited to ensure that everyone gets customized advice and instructions.
What you will need:
- A reference photo or two of a man whose face you want to imitate (for the purposes of this workshop, a human man would be preferable to a cartoon character or fictional man)
- 4 basic makeup tools:
Foundation: approximately matching your skin tone
Liquid eyeliner: approximately matching your hair colour
Light eyeliner pencil: bright white for pale skin people; 2 shades lighter than your skin tone for dark skinned people
Eye shadow palette: ideally a “natural” eyeshadow palette that looks good on your skin tone, but any will do
- If you have other makeup, please bring it along!
Accessibility & inclusivity:
This workshop is held on the 2nd floor, accessible by staircase only (i.e. not wheelchair accessible).
This is a workshop for all sizes of bodies. Plus size participants are welcomed.
Low Income tickets available for people living under the poverty line or experiencing financial hardship. Please note that these are available under the honour system: no one will be asked to prove income. Limited availability, once low income tickets are sold out only standard price will be available.
Instructor:
Taught by Nolan Void, a non-binary boylesque and draglesque artist from Canada living in Melbourne, Australia. They do campy pop-culture themed strips, focusing on impersonating middle-aged men with moustaches. Combining the delightful chaos of Canadian drag with the camp of Australian boylesque, they are a charismatic performer and a patient teacher who enjoys working with people of a variety of skill levels.
