We have been asked to organise a repeat of a bike ride from Maryborough to Hervey Bay via the Mary2Bay Rail Trail. WE NEED TO KNOW NUMBERS. If you are coming to this event, please indicate you are coming. If you indicate that you are coming and then change your mind, please be sure to change this within the event.We are lucky enough to have generous and knowledgeable volunteers and advocates from M2BRT HQ to help us navigate through locked gates and private property with permission from the land owners.
We are meeting at Ululah Lagoon/Anzac Park on Sunday the 23rd of November at 6:00 am to ride from Maryborough to Urangan along the Mary2Bay Rail Trail, just one way, approximately 52 kms, with much of it off road, finishing at the end of Urangan Pier.
We will be riding via parts of the completed rail trail and via detours round the uncompleted parts. Right now the official rail trail is not complete, but the detours are manageable and make the ride perhaps more fun and interesting!
Allow four to six hours - depending on numbers, paces and levels of participants, and any incidents or breakdowns - from leaving Maryborough to our arrival in Urangan. We will be having regular breaks along the way, and then having lunch in Urangan when we arrive.
Cyclists will need to have a reasonable level of fitness and experience. This is an organised event but is not facilitated or hosted by any person or organisation. Though all care will be taken, the environment on the trail can be unpredictable, and you participate at your own risk and are responsible for your own safety.
All cyclists are to be self-sufficient and are to have spare tubes, pumps, lots of water and own food, hats, sunscreen, first aid and provisions for the trip. E bikes are okay, as long as they are able to ride off road on some rough terrain in parts.
There are cyclists coming from Hervey Bay early in the morning to join the ride, and the possibility of cyclists needing lifts back from Hervey Bay after the ride. If you are able to offer a seat or a spot on a bike rack to bring people from Hervey Bay to the start of the ride or to bring cyclists and bikes back from Hervey Bay after the ride, or if you are looking for a lift, please comment below so you can be contacted.
