Captivating, witty, and deeply compassionate, Mary Jane tells the story of a single mother facing an impossible family situation. Mary Jane's young son Alex is chronically ill, and together they navigate life in a small apartment in New York City. Faced with seemingly insurmountable odds, Mary Jane holds onto unflagging optimism and humor, and builds a community of women around her who become a makeshift family, providing the wisdom and support she needs to get through each day. But when Alex's condition takes a turn for the worse, can friendship and inner strength be enough?
