Free panel discussion on marketing in the gender-based violence and human trafficking movement as a nonprofit leader or consultant
About this Event

Marketing in the Movement Webinar: Join us for a free, virtual national panel discussion on marketing your work/brand as a nonprofit leader and/or consultant in the gender-based violence and/or human trafficking movement.

Join us for a free, virtual national panel discussion providing information for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, trafficking, and/or exploitation on marketing your work in the gender-based violence and/or human trafficking movement.

Self-Employed Survivors Series: This webinar is part of our ongoing Self-Employed Survivors Series, which focuses on accessible economic empowerment and professional development for survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, trafficking, and/or exploitation, with special attention to systemic barriers for marginalized communities, including BIPOC folks, LGBTQ+ folks, immigrants, persons with disabilities, and more.

Hosts (SPC and YAMT): This event is co-hosted by Shobana Powell Consulting (SPC) and You Are More Than (YAMT). SPC is a national consulting firm consisting of advocate and survivor/lived experience experts providing training and technical assistance at the intersections of gender-based violence, trafficking, and systemic oppression. YAMT is a national survivor-led organization serving survivors of trafficking and those impacted by the commercial sex industry across the United States.

Speakers:

  • Ashante Taylorcox, MA-MHC, LPC (she/her)
  • Alida Tchicamboud (she/her)
  • Dr. Shobana Powell, DSW, LCSW (she/her)

Attendees: You do not have to self-identify as a survivor of gender-based violence (i.e. intimate partner violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, exploitation, etc.) in order to attend. Our target audience is survivors, but we also encourage service providers to join and share resources with the communities you serve.

Confidentiality: This webinar will not be recorded so as to create a trauma-informed virtual environment.

Disability Justice: We recognize that not everyone can attend the webinar live due to scheduling issues and/or barriers to attending a webinar that is not recorded. We will provide a one-pager concluding the event that will be sent out to all attendees who register. If reading written materials is not accessible, we suggest text-to-speech apps such as Voice to Dream Reader or Speechify, which can read the text of documents out loud.

Language Justice: Please email us at [email protected] by October 1, 2024 to request language accomodations. In the event we do not have the capacity to fulfill your request for this upcoming webinar, we will do our best to accommodate the request in future offerings and/or to translate the one-pager into the requested language.

Q & A: There will be time for questions and answers at the end of the session.

She is also an economic empowerment specialist, working to help survivors achieve financial independence. She actively collaborates with city officials and organizations like Sanctuary for Families and leads her non-profit, Healing Hands International, which focuses on supporting women impacted by violence. Her advocacy includes pushing for reforms in shelter systems, particularly around housing vouchers & policies to ensure survivors have access to long-term, stable housing. As an economic empowerment specialist, she equips survivors to rebuild their lives financially.

Dr. Shobana Powell, DSW, LCSW (she/her) is the CEO & Founder of Shobana Powell Consulting, a consulting firm consisting of national advocate and survivor experts who provide training and technical assistance in multiple languages on the intersection of gender-based violence, human trafficking, and systemic oppression. Through her doctoral research, she developed the Survivor Equity and Inclusion Framework, a model for organizations to prevent the re-exploitation (tokenizing, undercompensating, undervaluing) of survivors/lived experience experts.
