Experience Synopsis: The Museum of Outdoor Arts invites you to an artistic experiment in sound and vision on October 24th at Marjorie Park.
We’ll present a screening of the classic film “The Wizard of Oz” while simultaneously playing Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon.” This pairing, often referred to as “Dark Side of the Rainbow,” has fascinated audiences for decades, offering a chance to see familiar works in a fresh and unexpected way.
For decades, fans have whispered about a strange and magical coincidence: when Pink Floyd’s 1973 album,“Dark Side of the Moon” is played simultaneously with the 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz, uncanny connections begin to appear. Dorothy opens the door to Oz just as the music swells into “Money.” Lyrics and rhythms seem to echo the film’s imagery. Scenes and songs align in ways that feel too perfect to be chance, and yet, it was never planned by the filmmakers or the band.
This curious pairing, often nicknamed “Dark Side of the Rainbow,” has since become a cult classic experience around the world. For some, it’s a trippy coincidence. For others, it’s a surreal experiment in the blending of cinema and sound. Either way, it’s a phenomenon that continues to fascinate audiences more than 50 years after the album’s release.
*Presented by the Museum of Outdoor Arts as an educational and artistic exploration. This program is not sponsored, authorized, or endorsed by the rights holders of “The Wizard of Oz” or Pink Floyd.
