Join Marion Voices Folklife + Oral History for the fourth-annual Marion Black Joy Summerfest: capping off a beautiful month of Juneteenth celebrations across Marion County. Marion Black Joy Summerfest is Marion County’s annual summertime celebration of Black cultural arts, history, & futures in Marion County. The celebration is returning to MLK Park on the West Side for the fourth year on June 29th, 2024.
This year — produced by Marion Voices, with flagship sponsorship from OhioHealth, grant support by the Marion Community Foundation, and community and corporate sponsorship by Shamrock Insurance, Pillar Credit Union, Park National Bank, Whirlpool’s FOCUS African-American Network, Graphic Packaging International, Streetwise Motors, Tri-Rivers, & Peace & Freedom Committee — the festival features five hours of live music by the Elements, narrative stage interview panels on Black arts, history, and experience, cultural arts demonstrations and workshops (including line dancing, beaded jewelry-making, & more), Black-owned food trucks, a vendor marketplace, an expanded kids’ area in partnership with the Peace & Freedom Committee (with arts activities, games, & more), and a brand-new Marion Voices pop-up exhibit on Black history in Marion County.
This family-friendly, free outdoor event celebrates the vital role Black culture, history, & futures play in Marion County and is open to all. Festival t-shirts, tote bags, stickers, and soda will also be available to purchase with all proceeds supporting Marion Voices’ future Marion Black Joy Summerfests.
