Mariners Exhibition Curator's Talk
About this Event
Join us for a short talk on the exhibition, its development and a closer look at a few highlights. This curators’ introduction will focus on items from our collection that speak to the connection between maritime activities and British colonial expansion; by looking at materials related to the life and mission Samuel Ajayi Crowther - the Bishop of the Niger and first African consecrated into the Anglican church - who navigated the tensions between European control and African leadership; and other items, like the 1824 Court of Arches case brought against the captain of the Agincourt, for cruelty against a Man of Colour hired to be the ships head cook. Refreshments will be available.
All are welcome, but those wishing to attend should book a ticket or email [email protected] no later than Tuesday 1 September.
Please note that tickets must be booked individually for security purposes.
