At the core off all we do as sailors is one thing – weather. It’s is our engine, our bliss or our most frightening adversary. Because of this, we need to know more about it than the average Joe. The subject of weather is vast and can be complicated, but let’s start with the basic ideas surrounding weather.This session will cover:
__Weather Basics__
- What makes up our weather, Where our weather comes from - air masses and the jet stream, High and Low pressure systems, Cloud Types
__Weather Forecasts__
- Understanding the inshore waters and shipping forecast, Sourcing weather online, Interpreting a synoptic chart, weather models
__Types of Weather__
- Land & Sea Breezes, Fog
We will review the wide range of on-line weather sources and provide some recommendations on great weather apps for your smart phones/tablets.
