Margate to Herne Bay Coastal Walk
Fancy a proper seaside adventure? We’re doing a relaxed coastal walk from Margate to Herne Bay, following North Kent’s shoreline with big sea views, cliffs, beaches, and loads of great photo spots. It’s a long one, but the elevation is super gentle — steady pace, good vibes, and a picnic stop along the way.
Hike details
- Distance: approx. 22 km (one-way)
- Difficulty: Moderate (mainly because it’s a long distance)
- Total ascent: about 111 m
- Terrain: coastal promenade, cliff-top path, and some beach sections
- Underfoot: mostly firm/paved paths; some shingle or firm wet sand depending on the tide
Route highlights
We’ll pass through classic seaside towns and stretches of open coast, including Westgate-on-Sea, Birchington, the dramatic ruins at Reculver Towers, and a final finish by Herne Bay (pier area). If the tide is low, we can use more firm sand and avoid extra shingle; at high tide, expect more shingle sections.
Dogs welcome (on a lead at all times)
On the day
Look for Maria at the meeting point. If you can’t find her, call/text: 07535 295739
