For over two decades, New Orleans Fish Fry have been a torchbearer for Louisiana’s homegrown music scene, taking a Cajun Zydeco-flecked approach to genres from swing to funeral marches and beyond before finding their niche in the world of roots and tribute music, where their current lineup — consisting of James Day & Krewe — have continued to blaze a trail as one of the most exciting acts both in their state and further afield.
Building on the groundwork laid by the scene’s most legendary musicians including Professor Longhair, Dr. John, and Beau Jaque — via a detour through the prairies of Cajun and Zydeco country and the iconic legacy left by the late producer Cosimo Matassa — New Orleans Fish Fry have continued to refine their signature sound, layering backbeat drumming, honking sax, squeezing accordion, scratchy frottoir, and husky bass into a veritable sonic gumbo showcased over a slew of albums, live gigs, and festival appearances to date.
