About this Event
Groundbreaking singer-songwriter and guitar virtuoso from Los Angeles
“One of the best young singer-songwriters in America – maybe even the world.” (David Crosby)
You certainly don't meet a musician like Marcus Eaton every day. During his career, which has now spanned over 20 years, the celebrated American singer, guitarist, producer and composer has virtually redefined the term singer-songwriter. With captivating lyrics, complex melodies with pop appeal and his amazing guitar skills, he has become one of the leaders of the generation of singing acoustic guitarists.
The thoroughbred musician was born with a passion for music:
The son of the well-known songwriter Steve Eaton (Carpenters, Art Garfunkel) took his first lessons on the piano as a toddler and discovered his great love for the guitar at the age of nine. He celebrated his first successes with his band The Lobby around the turn of the millennium, but since then Eaton has made a name for himself internationally, especially as a solo artist and as an exceptional guitarist. His unique guitar style includes countless influences, from flamenco to classical, from jazz-funk to reggae and far beyond. The impressive list of musicians he has worked with so far is correspondingly diverse: Derek Trucks, Graham Nash, Stone Temple Pilots, Seal, Vonda Shephard, Bob Dylan, Nils Lofgren, Flea, Rodrigo Y Gabriella, Leland Sklar, Toots and The Maytals, Victor Wooten and many others.
Marcus Eaton is now seen by critics as the legitimate successor to David Crosby - not least because Eaton worked with the Woodstock legend, who died in 2023, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame members for many years. During their creative partnership, he co-wrote a number of songs with Crosby (including for the acclaimed 2014 comeback album Croz), sang harmony vocals and was the touring guitarist for the Crosby band. He also composed and produced the music for the documentary David Crosby: Remember My Name, which was nominated for a Grammy Award for ‘Best Music Documentary’ in 2020.
There are a lot of exciting things coming up for Eaton in 2024. On the one hand, he will be heard in cinemas everywhere in January; Eaton was involved as main guitarist in the film music for the Hollywood production The Book Of Clarence. But above all, the focus is on the release of the studio album What Is Real. The solo work is scheduled to be released in mid-2024. The work began in 2020 during the first Covid lockdown. “It was of course a strange time,” remembers Eaton. “But because of the situation, I was able to really focus on the songs.” They are the best I have ever written and produced and they will take the listener on a wonderful journey.”
Several pre-release singles have built anticipation for this longer-term project. The third release “Better Way” particularly stands out:
The catchy number was supervised in Los Angeles by producer Eric Robinson (Taylor Swift, OneRepublic) and recorded together with John Mayer's band. The innovative video for “Better Way”, produced using AI, also impresses with its impressive flood of images.
From his second home in the middle of Europe, Eaton now wants to tour intensively with the new songs. Both band performances and his incomparable solo concerts are planned, in which he uses a sophisticated looping technique to create orchestral sound dimensions. The best opportunity to experience this brilliant artist and his stirring music is live and up close.
