March 11, 2026 Meeting of WCHS Local History Book Club
Washington County Historical Society’s Local History Book Club will meet from 12:30 to 1:30 on Wednesday, March 11, at the society building, 167 Broadway, Fort Edward. Membership in the society is not required.
The topic is the border war of 1749 to about 1781 between New York and New Hampshire over the area that was to become the state of Vermont. Book choices include Those Turbulent Sons of Freedom by Christopher S. Wren and Ethan Allen, His Life and Times by Willard Sterne Randall. Focus will be on those areas of present-day Washington County that were closest to the intimidation efforts by Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys. Relevant articles can be found online at schaghticokehistory.wordpress.com and vermonthistory.com.
Future sessions of the club will feature topics related to the larger Adirondack area as well as works by local authors.
Upcoming discussions include: Covered bridges in Washington County, Le Loup’s Bloody Trail from Salem to Argyle (1859), and the stone walls in Kingsbury built by Rev. George S. Brown. For additional information, email Connie Harris Farrington at [email protected].
