In 2025 the Augusta Museum of History will focus the Brown Bag History Lecture Series on collecting oral histories from area families. These family histories will help us as a community preserve legacy, bridge the gap between generations, and give a spotlight to different cultures, histories and stories in our area. Through these lectures and interviews, you, the listener, will gain a unique understanding of Augusta’s past, and be inspired to gather and share your own story with your family and others. Most assuredly recording family histories will enrich your understanding of where you come from and guarantee that your family’s stories are not lost.on Wednesday, March 12th Doug Herman of Augusta Brewery Company will share his family's story as Irish Americans in Augusta. Herman's rich family history goes back to the late 1800's when his great-grandfathers were making names for themselves in their respective beer and soda water businesses in the Augusta area.
The Brown Bag History Lecture Series is provided monthly by the Augusta Museum of History and is an ideal lunchtime break for downtown professionals, retirees, and students. The lectures are free to Museum members and $5 for non-members, no registration required. Participants can bring a lunch to enjoy in the Museum Rotunda and the AMH will provide water, hot coffee and a dessert. Lunch can begin as early as 11:30am; the lecture takes place in the History Theater at 12:30pm with a short Q&A following. The recorded sessions will be available on the AMH YouTube channel and shared on social media
