She received her initial training under Late Guru Charoo Bordoloi and later became a disciple of Sangeet Natak Academy Awardee late Surendra Saikia of Kathak Kendra, U.P. She is also a disciple of Padma Vibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj. She is the founder of "SUR SANGAM" – an institute of Kathak Dance and Music. Meghranjani Medhi started learning Kathak under her mother and Marami Medhi and was later trained by Birju Maharaj. She is a Grade ‘A’ artiste of Doordarshan and an empanelled artiste of the ICCR. She was a gold medallist in Dance from the Guwahati University and has received various scholarships from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The recital opens with Ganesh vandana, an invocation and salutation to Lord Ganesha. This is followed by shuddha nritya, presented as a paramparik Kathak gatha by the mother-daughter duo embodying a living guru-shishya parampara. The recital culminates in a deeply evocative abhinaya piece that interweaves two rich cultural streams—one from the heart of Braj and the other from the spiritual soil of Assam.
Counted among the leading exponents of Bharatanatyam today, Ramya Ramnarayan combines legacy, expertise and experience. A protégé of two exponents of the dance form, S. K. Rajaratnam Pillai and Kalanidhi Narayanan, she blends tradition with innovation and is recognised as a capable performer, choreographer, educator and a torchbearer of this art. Ramnarayan is a Kalaimamani awardee (Tamil Nadu State award), an ICCR empanelled artiste and a Grade ‘A’ artiste of Doordarshan. She is a visiting faculty member at Rutgers University, has performed at prestigious venues and conducted lecture-demonstrations at various schools, universities, colleges, museums and libraries under the auspices of Young Audiences, US, reaching out to over 10,000 members per year. Through Nrithyanjali, a production company and school, Ramnarayan’s work has been about retaining the roots of her South Indian heritage steeped in philosophy, spirituality, mysticism and myth, while also bringing the eloquence of Bharatanatyam to universal themes.
Guided by the enchanting call of Krishna’s flute, Ravali is a journey through the many dimensions of divine love—longing, ecstasy, surrender and devotion to the Supreme. Rooted in the classical margam tradition, this power-packed production moves between electrifying rhythmic cadences and tender emotional sequences, bringing classical lyrical poetry to life through the full expressive range of Bharatanatyam—from nritta to abhinaya.
