Mapping the Oregon Territory: Surveyors, Boundaries & the Historic Landrum Wayside
Join the Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon (PLSO), South Central Chapter, and the Klamath County Museum for an exploration of Klamath Basin history through the people, maps, boundaries, and surveying that helped shape the region.
Using the Francis Landrum Historic Wayside and the surrounding landscape as a starting point, the presentation will look at the history of the Klamath Basin from the peoples who have known and traveled this landscape for generations, through early exploration and established travel routes, the Applegate/Scott emigrant trail, and the development of transportation and settlement.
The presentation will also explore the work of surveyors in defining and documenting the landscape, including the surveying and monumentation of the Oregon–California boundary along the 42nd Parallel and the important role surveying played in the development of Oregon and the Klamath Basin.
The presentation will conclude by connecting this history to modern land surveying, mapping, geomatics, education, and professional licensure, demonstrating how the work of surveyors continues to influence the communities and landscapes we live in today.
Whether you are interested in local history, exploration, maps, boundaries, transportation, surveying, or the story behind the landscape around us, this program offers an opportunity to see the Klamath Basin from a different perspective.
Presented by the Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon, South Central Chapter, in cooperation with the Klamath County Museum.
