About this Event
The event will start with an introduction to the mediaeval manuscripts that St George's Chapel owns. After a brief refreshment break and a chance to view St George's manuscripts, Dr Tristan Franklinos will deliver an illustrated lecture on a unique literary, musical, and artistic manuscript which contains the text for Orff's Carmina Burana. This manuscript is not held at St George's. Dr Franklinos is a Lector in the Faculty of Classics, Oxford University. He is a specialist on mediaeval and renaissance Latin manuscripts.
All profits from ticket sales will support the Adopt a Book conservation scheme. The scheme helps us to preserve the unique collection of rare books in the Chapter Library of St George’s Chapel, repairing the damage of centuries of dust, dirt, insects, and the inevitable wear and tear of use.
To learn more about the Adopt a Book scheme and how you can play a part in this vital conservation work, please see our website. https://www.stgeorges-windsor.org/archives/adopt-a-book/
This event will finish by 5pm and everyone is very welcome to attend Choral Evensong in St George's Chapel immediately following the event at 5:15pm. Just ask staff for directions.
PLEASE NOTE: We will also need some additional information from you at booking. Windsor Castle has a high security level and we need to ask you for full details in order to get security clearance to allow you access to non-visitor areas. Under GDPR regulations this information will only be used for this purpose and will not be retained. This therefore means that we may need to ask you for it again should you attend another event. We are sorry that this is so bureaucratic, however we are sure you will appreciate that security is paramount.
