Reclaiming pre-colonial Sikh texts and two centuries of Western writing on Sikhi, a live podcast with two leading scholars
About this Event

Join Ramblings of a Sikh for a special live podcast with Professor Eleanor Nesbitt and Dr Jvala Singh.

Two of the most important voices in Sikh studies today.

One who has shaped how Sikhi is understood, taught and studied in Britain for decades, and another who is reshaping how pre-colonial Sikh literature is read, translated, and made available to a new generation.

Professor Eleanor Nesbitt, author of Sikhs: Two Centuries of Western Women's Art and Writing and the bestselling Sikhism: A Very Short Introduction, and Dr Jvala Singh — lecturer in Punjabi at UC Berkeley, creator of the Suraj Podcast, founder of Manglacharan and Study Sikhi, and author of 54 Punjabi Proverbs and the forthcoming The Ballad of Chandi: Poems of Resistance and Victory — join us on stage for one night only.

Between them, they bridge the worlds of lived Sikhi and inherited tradition: from the ethnographies of Sikh communities in modern Britain to the Braj and Punjabi literature of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that continues to shape how Sikhs understand their Gurus, their scripture, and themselves.

What to expect:

  • A live podcast with Ramblings of a Sikh — 45 minutes of conversation with both scholars, delving into the ideas and questions behind their work
  • An audience Q&A where you can put your questions directly to them
  • Time to purchase books and have them signed
  • Delicious refreshments, including samoseh

Expect an evening of powerful ideas, stories often left untold, great food, and the chance to hear two leading scholars in person.

Seats are limited — secure yours early.

No parking available at the venue but paid parking available nearby.
