Mandt System Instructor Certification Course

When: October 26, 2026 at 9:30 AM (AEST)

Where: North Lakes Hotel

Join us in person for a hands-on dive into the Mandt System techniques. This 4-day course covers everything you need to become a certified instructor and embed safety as a culture, not just a policy.

You’ll learn evidence-based frameworks like the Crisis Cycle Model, trauma-informed practice, conflict management, and safe physical intervention techniques. Plus, get practical experience teaching and assessing others with adult learning principles and scenario-based delivery.

The is delivered covering 3 teirs of prevention, de-esclation and Crisis skills.

Tier 1 Primary Prevention: Healthy Relationships & Communication

The majority of Mandt training investment sits here because this is where risk is eliminated before it begins. Instructor Certified staff understand how to build genuine relational safety: atonement, dignity, unmet needs identification, and proactive engagement strategies grounded in trauma informed care. This tier directly addresses the evidence base showing that most restrictive practice incidents are preceded by relational breakdown not unmanageable behaviour.

Tier 2 Secondary Intervention: De-escalation & Crisis Cycle Skills

When stress is rising, Instructor Certified staff are equipped to read the signs early and intervene effectively. The Mandt Crisis Cycle model provides a shared language across your entire workforce from support workers to senior clinicians that enables consistent, coordinated responses to escalation. This is where most organisations currently focus their investment. Mandt Instructors go further: they teach teams to interrupt the cycle earlier, reducing the frequency and severity of crisis altogether.

Tier 3 Tertiary Intervention: Technical Self-Protection & Physical Skills

Physical intervention is taught as a last resort proportionate, brief, documented, and legally defensible. Instructor training includes clear thresholds for justified physical interaction, prohibited practices awareness, and safety monitoring requirements that align directly with Queensland legislation and NDIS Practice Standards.

Critically, Tier 3 is never taught in isolation. In the Mandt framework, physical intervention is always the failure of everything that came before it and Instructors are trained to teach it in exactly that context.
