Manchester Photography Collective Photo Walk

This walk is themed around “Signs of Change.”

For this month’s photowalk, we’ll be exploring the idea of transition across the city. You might look for the first signs of spring emerging in the streets, or take a more conceptual approach by observing people in moments of reinvention, a new outfit, a shift in posture, a subtle change in mood.

Think about anticipation. What feels like it’s about to happen? What moments suggest movement, growth, or something just beginning? Change can be seasonal, emotional, structural, or symbolic.

Pay attention to contrasts, old and new architecture side by side, light breaking through cloud, spaces being rebuilt or repurposed. Small visual cues can carry a strong sense of transformation.

Expect a thoughtful pace, room to experiment, and the freedom to try something different, whether in how you shoot or later in how you edit. This walk is an opportunity to notice change, embrace it, and perhaps reflect it in your own creative process.

Meeting point
1:00pm — Village Hall, Deansgate Mews (Manchester City Centre)

We’ll begin with a 30-minute check-in to introduce the theme, share ideas, and reflect on what “change” might look like in our work before heading out into the city.

What we’ll be shooting

• Early signs of spring and seasonal transition
• Moments of reinvention, anticipation, or subtle transformation
• Contrasts between old and new architecture or spaces in flux
• Light shifts, movement, and visual cues that suggest something emerging

All levels welcome: whether you’re shooting on a phone, compact, film, or DSLR/mirrorless. If you’re new, you’ll be looked after. If you’re experienced, come to make work and meet other photographers.

• Your camera/phone (and a spare battery if you have one)
• Weather-appropriate layers (January in Manchester is cold!)
• Optional: a small umbrella, gloves, and a warm drink

We’ll be photographing in public spaces. Please be mindful and respectful, especially when making images involving strangers. Look out for each other, and if you need to step away at any point, that’s completely fine.
