Official Manchester tour guide Ed Glinert, the city's leading historian and author of the forthcoming epic history, "Manchester: The Biography", leads this detailed tour of the Portico Library and the history of the streets around, unfolding the success of Chinatown; the legacy of John Dalton, Manchester's first great scientist; the Literary and Philosophical Society; and Mosley Street, home of the Georgian rich and powerful with its unfortunate connotations.
After the Portico, we go to Central Library to explain how it was built in honour of the Pantheon – not just the one in Rome, but London's long lost "wonder of the age".
