About this Event
Join us as we look for and identify birds in their natural habitat at Sarasota County's Manasota Scrub Preserve. The Preserve's 179 acres are home to one of the few remaining scattered pockets of scrub habitat, pine flatwoods, and seasonal wetlands in a suburban community. Resident wildlife such as gopher tortoise, Northern Quail, Great-Horned Owl, swallowtail butterflies, and the occasional bobcat can be observed. Native habitat restoration is underway to prepare for the return of the precious Florida Scrub-Jay and to enhance the preserve for other native wildlife.
This program is suitable for all ages. All participants under the age of 16 must attend with a parent or guardian.
Participants should bring a water bottle and wear clothing appropriate for the weather. We recommend sun protection, bug spray, and closed-toe shoes, no flip-flops. You may wish to bring binoculars or a camera as well. Please note that there are no restrooms or water fountains on-site. We recommend using the restroom before you arrive.
This program is provided in partnership with the Sarasota County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Department.
Your gift of $5 or more per person will help the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast save wild places and continue to engage people in nature. We greatly appreciate your support!
