About this Event
Management of Common Pediatric Emergencies
Background: Emergency medical service (EMS) agencies transport approximately six million children for emergency health care every year. Still, most EMS agencies respond to fewer than 100 pediatric calls annually. As a result of the low frequency of encounters, several studies have shown that EMS providers are not comfortable and have higher anxiety levels when responding to pediatric calls. Partially, this is due to the infrequent practice of skills. To overcome this, deliberate practice of skills is essential, as is access to pediatric-specific equipment that professionals can use with confidence and competence. Description: This workshop is aimed at prehospital emergency personnel, reviews the most frequent pediatric emergencies and treatments, and provides an opportunity for hands-on training on essential skills. The workshop will review the fundamentals of pediatric emergency care and key actions to help improve patient outcomes. The workshop faculty includes professionals with extensive experience in pediatric emergency medicine and simulation to provide a comprehensive learning experience. Learning Objectives: • Identify rapidly a critically ill child • Perform a systematic approach and correctly assess a child with a life-threatening emergency • Demonstrate skills required to manage pediatric emergencies properly
Presenter Bio: Samia Barbar is a pediatric cardiologist with experience in pediatric emergency. Currently she works at the Grodon Center as a Simulation Based Education fellow, on her second year of training. She is joined by a great team of nurse educators, that also have ample experience working with pediatric care.
