Come along to Arai te Uru Marae Manaakitanga community Powhiri on Saturday 8th November 2025
Please gather in the carpark at 10.30am to prepare for the Powhiri which begins at 11am. This diverse multi-cultural gathering extravaganza will finish around 2pm.
If you have never been to a Marae or a Powhiri before-or you would just love to come along and have your life enhanced, or maybe your presence will bless another, then this event is for you! 🙌
Bring along your friends and/or whanau, or if you are interested- there will be lots of people to meet.
If you would like to share your culture through, speech, song, dance or food, please touch base with us, or let us know on the day, as we would love to open up an opportunity for you.
On this day we will celebrate the whakataukī from Kīngi Pōtatau Te Wherowhero 1858: Kotahi te kohao o te ngira e kuhuna ai te miro mā, te miro pango, te miro whero. (There is but one eye of the needle through which is threaded white, black and red strands). Hereafter, hold fast to charity, uphold the laws and be firm in the Faith.”
This whakatauākī has implications for both the making of connections and collaboration that may ensue as we work towards supporting a common vision.

Come share in the ceremony, richness, kai, laughter, song, learning and connectivity that is in abundance at each unqiue celebration.
Come one, come all, everyone is welcome and celebrated. If you have never been on a marae before, please come along! A special welcome to recently arrived former refugees and other migrants to Dunedin.
Please be aware that shoes are not to be worn in the meeting house (unless you have a medical condition), so come prepared and dress warmly if the weather is cold.
