Join Dr. Steve Fields, curator of natural history at the Culture & Heritage Museums of York County, for a fascinating look at more than 20 years of research documenting nearly 50 mammal species across the historically overlooked and understudied Carolina Piedmont. From familiar species to new arrivals like the armadillo, this ongoing research offers a glimpse into the region’s changing wildlife and environment.
Dr. Fields has not only served as the curator of natural history for the Culture and Heritage Museums of York County since 1986, but he is also an adjunct instructor in the Biology Department at Winthrop University, where he has served since 1997, and the Science Department at York Technical College, where he has taught online courses since 2013.
Dr. Fields has published extensively on the natural history and fossils of the Southeast. His first book, In Your Nature: Ponderings of a Carolina Piedmont Naturalist, features a collection of his nature articles from YC Magazine (2006 - 2016).
Copies will be available for purchase and signing at the event for $17 (cash or check only)!
