Join us at Pukeahu National War Park to commemorate the service and sacrifice of New Zealanders who served in the Malayan Emergency (1948–1960) and Confrontation in Borneo (1964–1966) on Wednesday 16 September. **Please be seated in the Hall of Memories by 10.45am.**
The Malaya/Malaysia/Borneo commemoration is held each year on the anniversary of the establishment of the Malaysian Federation on 16 September 1963.
The Malayan Emergency (1948–1960) was a conflict between Commonwealth forces and a communist insurgency seeking to establish control of Malaya. New Zealand soldiers, sailors, and airmen made a significant contribution to the Commonwealth campaign and later supported Malaysia during Indonesia's Confrontation in Borneo (1964–1966).
Approximately 4,000 New Zealand personnel served in Malaya, Malaysia, and Borneo, and 20 are listed on New Zealand's roll of honour as having died on operational service during these campaigns.
