Making Your Home Safer for Seniors

Most older adults want to remain in their own homes for as long as possible, but many homes contain hidden hazards that increase the risk of falls and injuries. LivWell Seniors will help families identify those risks during a free Lunch & Learn, "Making Your Home Safer for Seniors," at noon on Tuesday, August 4, inside the former Jane’s Place, inside CASI, the Center for Active Seniors, 1035 W. Kimberly Rd, Davenport, Iowa.
The presentation will be led by Rhonda Halterman, founder of LivWell Seniors, who will share:
• The most common fall hazards found inside and outside the home
• Safety improvements for bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms, stairways, and entryways
• Easy, low-cost modifications that can significantly reduce injury risks
Joining Halterman will be Bill Brownson of Home Helpers, who will discuss how professional in-home care can provide assistance, improve safety, and help seniors remain independent longer.
"Many people wait until after a fall to make changes," Halterman said. "By then injuries sustained in the fall could lead to a drastic change in lifestyle. A few simple improvements is all it takes to prevent falls before they happen, preserve independence, and give families peace of mind."
The lunch and learn is ideal for seniors wanting to age safely at home, and family caregivers.
The event is free and lunch will be provided. RSVPs are required by Friday, July 31. To reserve a seat, call 563-265-1577 or emailing info@livwellseniors or calling (563) 265-1577.
