About this Event

Elam Te Waka Tūhura is delighted to host Candice Lin for a fourth and final Making Spaces for 2026 at Elam Fine Arts, on Monday, 14 September 2026, at 6.00 pm

Making Spaces provides a platform for leading artists and arts professionals to share insights into their practice and ways of working. It creates space for their voices, exploring what they make, and why and how they make it.

Candice Lin received her BA in Visual Arts and Art Semiotics from Brown University (2001) and MFA in New Genres from San Francisco Art Institute (2004). Her practice utilizes installation, drawing, animation, and living materials and processes, such as bacteria, fermentation, and stains. Lin had recent solo exhibitions at Whitechapel, London (2025-26), UCCA Clay, Yixing (2025), Jameel Art Centre (2024-25), MUMA, Melbourne (2024), and Canal Projects, New York (2023). Her work was included in recent international biennials including the 24th Biennale of Sydney (2024), the 14th Gwangju Biennial (2023), and the 59th Venice Biennale (2022). She is Associate Professor of Art at UCLA and lives and works in Altadena, California. She is the recipient of several residencies, grants and fellowships including the Trellis Milestone Grant (2026), the inaugural Ruth Award (2024), Anonymous Was a Woman Award (2023), and the Gold Art Prize (2021).

Candice Lin’s artist lecture will share details about her research and recent installations.
