Asian artists are often underrepresented in western music industries. Their cultural identity can be the key to standing out in the scene, or another label that puts them firmly in the marginalized category. How can these artists represent themselves authentically to music festivals in Canada?Musician and producer Doug Cox is ready to start the conversation. As the long-time artistic director of the Vancouver Island Music Fest, he has worked with musicians from all over the world. To his seasoned eye, what can an artist do to stand out amongst the lineup of diverse talents? How can artists make the most of every festival beyond performing?
A workshop for emerging and independent artists interested in the relationship between festivals and musicians. Beyond the stage, there are plenty of opportunities to be found!
