Making Moxa: Transforming Mugwort into Herbal First Aid
About this Event
Making Moxa: Transforming Mugwort into Herbal First Aid
Join us for a hands-on exploration of one of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine's oldest healing arts: the making of moxa from mugwort.
Moxa is a dried and intentionally prepared herb that is burned close to, or directly on the body, so as to apply medicinal heat to various parts of the body as well as acupuncture points. It is one of the easiest ways to engage in herbal first aid, as well as to treat injuries, sprains, aches, and period cramps, as well as aid in postpartum recovery
On Saturday, August 1st, we'll gather at Holdfast Farm in Olney, MD to learn the traditional process of harvesting, drying, and preparing mugwort (Ai Ye) for moxibustion. Together we'll explore the history and lineage of moxa making, the qualities that distinguish high-quality moxa, and the traditional methods used to transform raw mugwort into the material used for therapeutic moxibustion.
This workshop offers a rare opportunity to connect directly with the plant, the land, and the generations of practitioners who have preserved this craft.
