Making It Real: The Art of Endowments & Object Work
About this Event
Gain confidence in building a whole world out of thin air in this two-hour workshop on endowments and object work! Because your environment is another character in your scene, you'll practice creating consistent, believable objects with your hands and body and learn how endowing your environment, your relationships, and your objects can instantly deepen what's happening. We'll explore how specificity turns a vague gesture into a real, trackable object, and how strong object work gives your scene partner something concrete to play off of. With this workshop, your physical choices will land as clearly as your verbal ones. All experience levels welcome.
Daytime workshops at the Big Couch Binge offer something for improvisers of all levels, from those just starting out to seasoned performers looking to enrich their skills.
And, don't forget about our multi-workshop passes that provide a discount when taking more than one workshop on either day. See our full event page for workshop bundles.
About the Instructor - Scott Anderson
Scott Anderson, or “Scoot” as he is called by his friends, is originally from Jackson, MS but has lived in New Orleans since 2013. He grew up falling asleep to the sounds of his parents’ bluegrass band rehearsing into the night. Even though he fought it for 18 years, he eventually realized that he had to learn to play guitar or be ostracized by his family. He went on to receive a degree in classical guitar while also studying jazz, funk, rock, and bluegrass. Music is his heart, comedy is his mind, but his MBA from the University of New Orleans pays the bills. When he is not working as a software engineer, Scott teaches, coaches, and performs improv comedy. He is the co-founder and co-owner of Big Couch, where writes improv course curriculum and oversees the venue's technical operations as well as performing in the Big Big Show, Nerd Night, and Special Features.
