Making God Laugh follows an American family through thirty years of holidays, beginning in 1980 when Ruthie and Bill's adult children—a priest, an aspiring actress, and a former football star—return home each year. Against the backdrop of familiar traditions, the family navigates shifting relationships and discovers that life rarely follows the script they'd written for themselves.
