Homeschool Family Hike: Makiki Loop Trail Adventure! 🥾🌿
When: Friday November 20th at 10:00am
Where: Makiki Valley State Recreation Area (Meet near the Hawaii Nature Center / restroom area)
Parking: Free parking is available in the lower and upper gravel lots, but spaces fill up fast! Please plan a few extra minutes to find a spot.
Bring the whole family and join us for a refreshing morning under the forest canopy! The Makiki Loop Trail is a scenic, shaded 2.2-mile loop nested right above Honolulu. It is a wonderful way for our students to connect, explore local ecology, and burn off some energy together.
What to Expect:
• The Route: A combination of the Kanealole and Maunalaha trails. It features a lush rainforest setting, beautiful streams, native plants, and towering banyan trees.
• Difficulty: Easy to moderate. The trail has some steady incline, exposed tree roots, and can get muddy or slick after rain, but it is highly manageable for kids who are comfortable walking on uneven terrain.
• Pace: Family-friendly and relaxed. We will take our time, take breaks, and stick together.
What to Bring:
• 💧 Plenty of water for everyone in your family.
• 🦟 Bug spray / mosquito repellent (a must-have for this valley!).
• 👟 Sturdy shoes with good grip that you don't mind getting
muddy.
• 🍎 Snacks to keep energy high.
RSVP: Please let us know if your family can make it by clicking "Going" or leaving a comment below with your headcount so we don't leave anyone behind at the trailhead.
We can't wait to hit the trails with you all!
