About this Event
Children will make their very own model Gipsy Moth bi-plane in this workshop designed to get minds thinking and whirring as they ake their plane and find out about amazing aviatrix, Amy Johnson.
On 5th May 1930, Amy Johnson took off from Croydon Airport on an incredible solo flight to Darwin. At just 26 years old, she flew in her open cockpit bi-plane, Jason across 11,000 miles on the flight that was to make her name. An unknown pilot ont ake off, AMy was an international superstar when she touched down in Darwin, securing her place in aviation history as the first woman to fly solo from England to Australia!
In 2025, the 95th anniversary of year of Amy 's incredible flight, children can find out more about Amy and make their very own Jason the Gipsy Moth bi-plane. All materials are provided in this fun workshop session led by experienced creative facilitator, Jenny Lockyer.
Children are encouraged to be independent in the session but at least one responsible adult per booking is required tos tay throughout.
This workshop can be enjoyed alongside the activities and exhibits at the de Havilland Aircraft Museum and older adults may wish to attend a performance later that evening of Jenny's one woman show, 'Amy Johnson: Last Flight out'

If the workshop has already started when you arrive please follow the signs and make your way to the Mezzanine level of the aircraft hangar which is up one flight of stairs. Also accessible by a wheelchair lift.
We will keep an eye out for people headed to the workshop.
