About this Event
If you’ve always loved the idea of making your own clothes, come along to this workshop to receive expert help & guidance, so you can sew your own wardrobe with confidence!
In this series of workshops, you’ll learn all you need to sew your own clothes confidently at home. From taking your measurements & altering a pattern, to different seam finishes & final touches, we’ll guide you through how to make a garment.
Bring a pattern & fabric along of your own choosing, and we’ll help with the rest.
What’s included:
- Teaching from Veryan, a tailor with over 10 years experience in pattern-cutting, design & making garments
- Sewing machines & all sewing essentials
- Tea, coffee & biscuits
- These are small workshops of up to three people, so there’s time for one-to-one help throughout the sessions
What do I need to bring:
Fabric & a pattern for a garment of your choice. If it’s your first time sewing or if you’d like some advice before you buy your fabric, we can help with any questions you might have prior to starting the course.
When:
Over the weekend of 22nd–23rd November
Saturday 22nd, 10am–4pm & Sunday 23rd, 10am–4pm (includes half an hour lunch break)
Where:
South London Sewing Club’s Studio in Thames-Side Studios, SE18 5NR (we'll email you directions to our studio prior to the event, so please check your junk mail in case it's gone astray!)
FAQs:
Can I have help deciding on my pattern and fabric?
Of course! Before the course starts, we’ll be in touch to chat through what you’d like to make & how might be best to approach it.
Can I come if I’ve never sewn before?
Yes. If you’re a beginner, we’ll spend a bit of time running through how to use a sewing machine before getting stuck in to pattern cutting. If you’re more experienced, we’ll get straight on with drafting your block or working from the pattern you bring.
Is there anywhere close by for lunch?
Within the Thames-Side Studios complex there’s The Arts Cafe, The Reach Climbing Wall cafe & also the vegan Ethiopian cafe, as well as a lovely square with benches to eat in, if the sun’s out.
How many spaces are available?
Only three spots are available.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please let us know as soon as possible if you can no longer make the course for a full refund. Cancellations during the week the workshops are held can only get a 70% refund (not including eventbrite’s fees).
