Make It! Time Capsules

Did you know we discovered a real 150-year-old time capsule hidden inside our historic synagogue? Now it’s your turn to create one!
When our new building was redeveloped in 2020, our builders made an amazing discovery – hidden deep inside a wall in our synagogue was a time capsule from 1873, sealed inside a glass jar with its wax seal still intact. Today, this remarkable piece of history is on display in our museum.
Inspired by this incredible find, you’ll create your own time capsule filled with memories, messages and keepsakes for the future! Bring along a favourite photo or small trinket to include, and we’ll provide the capsule, newspapers, craft materials and everything else you need to leave your own message for future generations!
Perfect for families, this hands-on activity is a fun way to get creative while discovering the fascinating story behind one of our museum’s most extraordinary discoveries.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
This workshop is open to all ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
There are two identical 90 minute sessions that day so you can book for either 10:30am or 1pm.
