Stitching Intention: Ancestral Poppet Folk MagicPoppets are one of the oldest forms of folk magic — quiet, humble, hand-stitched companions used for healing, protection, blessing, and intentional living long before magic ever became theatrical or commercialized. Across Europe and ancient cultures, village healers and home practitioners crafted simple figures from cloth, herbs, wax, and thread, anchoring prayers, remedies, and intention into something tangible the hands could hold.
In this workshop, we will explore the true history of poppet work around the world — how these figures were used in traditional folk medicine and household magic, and why poppets have been misunderstood and incorrectly labeled as “voodoo dolls” in modern culture. Vodou is a living spiritual tradition with its own sacred protocols, and while we honor and respect it, this class intentionally stays rooted in European folk practices and ancestral craft traditions.
We’ll also touch on Northern European and Nordic threads — the magic of handwork, stitching as spellwork, knot magic, and the way intention has always been woven into everyday making. This is slow magic. Body magic. The kind of medicine that lives in your hands, your breath, and your attention.
Each participant will create their own hand-stitched poppet using natural fabrics and a curated apothecary herb bar. You’ll choose an intention such as protection, nervous system support, grief tending, grounding, confidence, or rest, and learn how to ethically and respectfully work with a poppet for ongoing personal practice. We’ll close with a simple activation ritual and guidance on how to care for and eventually release your poppet when its work is complete.
No experience necessary. All supplies are provided.
This class is rooted in reverence, consent, cultural respect, and slow living — not spectacle, superstition, or fear-based magic.
