**This is an event organized by the Maine Historical Society, we are simply supporting the awareness of this wonderful occasion.** Join the Maine Historical Society for their annual Maine History Maker event with this year's honoree, Olympic Champion and TD Beach to Beacon 10K founder, Joan Benoit Samuelson.
Forty years ago, in 1984, Joan stunned crowds, winning the first-ever Olympic women’s marathon in Los Angeles. She instantly became an international icon: a groundbreaking athlete whose commitment, grit, and resilience continue to inspire audiences throughout the world.
But, to Mainers, she is even more: a down-to-earth neighbor who reflects our shared values and fills us with tremendous pride in Maine.
Help MHS say thank you “Joanie” for all that she means to Maine. The special evening will take place at L.L.Bean’s beautiful, new headquarters includes a reception with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by a program sharing her Maine story with tributes, video features, and more.
