Art from Inside: Opening Night with Kelly from Quincy's Prison Book Program on Thurs., Oct. 15 at 6pm
Where does the American prison system stand today?
What strategies are there for rehabilitation and prevention?
Why do books matter in prisons?
Discuss the important topic of access to books in the context of mass incarceration with Kelly, Executive Director at Quincy's Prison Book Program.
This free event is in conjunction with the exhibit of Art From Inside, a curated collection of artworks which have been sent to Prison Book Program by incarcerated people over the course of its 54 year history.
Make a Difference: During October's exhibit, New Bedford Free Public Library will be collecting book donations to send to local prisons.
The Prison Book Program is a nonprofit that supports incarcerated people by sending them free reading materials that match their needs and interests. Founded in 1972, this program holds nearly 200 volunteer sessions per year and is expanding to serve incarcerated readers in all 50 states.
