Mahjong & Dominoes: A Bridge Ritual Night

We started these nights from a simple question:

In a neighborhood like Bed-Stuy, shaped by Black cultural history, migration, storefront economies, music, movement, and displacement, what can a game contribute to a community?

In many communities, games have long functioned as small forms of social infrastructure. Bringing mahjong into Uncle Chin’s Lounge is not about introducing something “new” into Bed-Stuy. It is about placing one diasporic game tradition into conversation with the neighborhood’s already rich cultures of gathering and play. Around these tables, different rhythms meet: mahjong, dominoes, cards, conversation, care, music, strategy, laughter.

Over time, we hope these nights can become a modest but steady form of support for the community-a recurring space for connection, and mutual care in a city that often leaves people isolated from one another.

No experience needed. Come to play, learn, observe, or simply spend time.
